FAQs

The virtual programs are very long. Do I have to attend all of it?

Throughout the program, we will be having official stretch breaks and a dinner break to avoid Zoom fatigue as much as possible. You will not need to show your face or turn on your camera during the Zoom call unless you are in a breakout room interacting with the ROHP committee members, your matched host, or other fellow high school students. We do highly encourage that everyone attending our programs stay on the call for the whole night and morning because we do not want you to miss out on any valuable, exclusive information about Berkeley and the Scholarship.

In what time zone will these programs be held? What time should I enter the Zoom link?

All the programs will be held at Pacific Standard Time (PST). For the virtual programs, we recommend that you come at least 5-10 minutes early for both the night and morning portions and stay in the waiting room to ensure that your Zoom software is working properly.

I no longer want to attend ROHP but I have already registered on Typeform. What should I do?

Please email us at contact@rohp.berkeley.edu ASAP so we can let others who want to attend off the waitlist. We understand that last-minute emergencies may arise, but we would highly prefer that you notify us at least 1 week in advance of your registration cancellation.

When will I be notified that I'm off the waitlist?

We will do our best to notify you through your email that you are off the waitlist less than 5 days before the program. In years past, we have notified students the day before the program; therefore, it is crucial that you check your email at least once a day.

Will I get off the waitlist?

If you are NOT within the first 5 to 10 spots on the waitlist of each program date, it is unlikely that you will be given a spot. Due to high demand, spaces fill up very quickly and priority will be given to those who are first on the waitlist for each program date and respond promptly to our invitation. We encourage you to look at other ROHP dates if your top choice is full. If you are interested in being on the waitlist for multiple dates, you will need to fill the Guest Waitlist Typeform multiple times for each program date you are interested in.

What is my position on the waitlist?

Unfortunately, we do not reveal your waitlist position publicly due to privacy reasons. However, if you contact us at contact@rohp.berkeley.edu, we will respond to you with your current waitlist number for each program date.

What should my parents do?

We do not have additional programming for parents/guardians. These programs are organized for only student participation and engagement. If your parent(s)/guardian(s) are interested in listening in on the program or participating in any of the program activities, parent(s)/guardian(s) are welcome to join their student in the major-specific focus tours that are held during the morning portion of the program . A few select programs may have a parent/guardian panel where parent(s)/guardian(s) of current Regents' Scholars and the Scholarship Office will help answer questions related to Financial Aid or parent/guardian participation in RCSA. Your parent(s)/guardian(s) are encouraged to attend these panels.

If I'm not a Regents' Scholarship candidate, can I still register?

Unfortunately, ROHP is available only to prospective Regents' Scholars, as we are directly funded by the Regents' and Chancellor's Scholars Association and the Scholarship Office. We will triple-check the sign-up list before the programs to ensure that you are a Regents' and Chancellor's Scholar candidate. If you are not a candidate, we unfortunately cannot send you a Zoom link or match you with a host.

How much does ROHP cost?

ROHP is free of charge to all of our attendees, and we work hard to keep it this way! You will need to download the free Zoom software and create a free Zoom account to access our virtual programs. For the in-person programs, food and lodging for the entire duration are covered but travel costs will not be covered or reimbursed.

Are all of the offered ROHP dates the same?

No. This year, we will be offering 2 types of programs: virtual and in-person. Though most of the activities we will be doing are the same or very similar, some activities, such as the campus/focus tours, will be held in-person in groups versus online through videos. The biggest differences are the order of the activities, as well as the hosting events for virtual versus in-person. Virtual programs will allow hosts and guests to meet in break-out rooms, while in-person programs will have a physical ovenight sleepover component. In lieu of this, virtual programs will give prospective scholars a glimpse at Berkeley life through the event, “The Berkeley Experience”, which will be a virtual program-only event. However, all virtual programs and all in-person programs will follow an essentially similar schedule, save for the performance groups, professors, and student panels, which will differ between every program. To see general schedules of overnight and virtual programs, see the virtual and Overnight agenda pages for more info.

ROHP is full! Is there any way I can still learn about Berkeley and the Scholarship?

Of course! You are welcome to visit to Berkeley after the pandemic, speak to the Scholarship Office, and take a virtual-guided campus tour. Additionally, Cal has a number of other general overnight host programs, including the Overnight Stay Program (OSP), which may be able to accommodate you.

If we are attending an in-person program, what stuff should we bring?

We recommend looking at our packing list to get an idea of what to bring!
